In September 2003 St. Michael the Archangel began implementing the VIRTUS program which is a program designed to prevent and protect children from child sexual abuse. The educational component of this program is called “Protecting God’s Children” and the Archdiocese requires all adults in every parish who work and volunteer around children to take this awareness session; whether you volunteer weekly or once a year.  This includes school volunteers, coaches, scout leaders, religious education catechists, Little One’s Worship volunteers, Vacation Bible School volunteers and nursery volunteers.   We are grateful to all those who volunteer in a children’s ministry within our parish and recognize that taking this class is an added responsibility but please know that we are dedicated to providing children the safest environment possible.

1. Using the internet, go to www.virtus.org


2. On the left side of the page – Click on Registration (yellow letters)


3. This screen asks you to select your organization:  click the down arrow and click on Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and then click the select button


4. The User Id and Password you select will be used in the future (you will need
   to know this for the future).


5. Choose the I would like to attend a Protecting God’s Children session


6. Complete the registration form that appears.  The “your location” refers to St.
   Michael the Archangel.  After all required fields have been
   filled in, click Submit.


7. This screen displays a list of the Awareness Sessions scheduled.  Click the circle next to the Protecting God’s Children for Adults session you prefer and click the Submit Registration button.


8. You should see a screen that says “Thank you for registering”


9. You have completed the registration process.

In addition to the class you must return all forms to the parish office and we will then complete a criminal record background check and in order to volunteer all of these items must be complete. Thank you for your cooperation and helping us to continually provide the safest environment for the children of our parish.
