Introduction: Too good to be true?

1) Have there been times in your life when you’ve asked God for something and he said “no” or appeared not to answer your prayer?  What happened?  How did you feel?  Did it affect your belief in the power of prayer?

2) Do you believe that God wants what is best for you?  Do you believe He knows better than you what this is?  Was there a time when God didn’t answer a prayer and you saw how it turned out for the best?

3) Have you ever thought of what prayers God always says “yes” to?  Do you find hope that this book might help you understand God better?  What are you hoping for?

(Ch 1) I Wish I Could Believe: God Show Me That You Exist

1) When was a time in your life that you struggled to believe that God really exists? What was at the root of your doubt?

2) Have you ever felt completely sure of God’s presence and intervention in your life?  When?  How did God reveal Himself to you?

3) Have you ever tried to make a bargain with God?  “If you…then I’ll...”  What happened?

4) Anthony Destefano talks about how we can see a gold coin more clearly in a glass of clean water than in a dark murky glass.  Is your life clear or murky?  What needs to change?

5) “C.S. Lewis said once that whatever God takes away with his left hand he gives back with his right - in abundance.”  Have you ever experienced this?  What might God be asking you to give him?

(Ch 2) Why Should I Get Involved? God, Make Me and Instrument

1) How would you define “love”?  In what ways does love require “self-giving sacrifice”?  Is there someone specific in your life that God is calling you to love more?

2) Has God ever called you to help someone that stretched you beyond your comfort zone?  What happened?

3) What brings you the most lasting and deepest sense of joy in your life?  When is a time you felt really sure God was using you?
