Weekly Religion Lesson Plan

Chapter/Lesson Title:

Preparation: 

What are you going to do to draw their attention and create an atmosphere of learning about God?  Finding ways to separate them from the world outside of religion class.  (Prayer table, music, holy water, etc)

Proclamation: 

The announcement of what you are going to teach, what is the main point of your lesson.  State your objective clearly.

Explanation: 

Teach your proclamation.  Give examples, tell a story, model what you want them to learn.  Use your text – make Wesure you know ahead of time what is important in relation to your objective.  You should not spend the entire class time having students read from the text.

Application: 

Give the students time to make it their own.  This is a great time for small group activities, games, questions, art, skits, etc.

Celebration:

This is your closing activity.  This should be an immediate response to what you have learned about God today.  This could be prayer, reflection, song, or reading.

Activities for Home: 

Give your students one or two activities they can do at home that will reinforce the lesson.  For absent students put the page number they should complete in their journal.
