ABSENCES/ATTENDANCE:
Regular attendance at Religious Ed and participation in Journey is expected. If a child misses class for two consecutive weeks, the coordinator will call home. It is not necessary for parents to call regarding absences unless it will be for an extended time. Please contact us if circumstances arise which conflict with your child’s regular Religious Ed time, so that we might be able to help resolve the issue.
Regular attendance for students in sacramental prep years (1st & 2nd grades) is absolutely vital. More than two absences per semester may prevent a child from receiving sacraments as scheduled.
ARRIVAL:
You need to park and walk your child into his/her classroom. You may park on either the North or South side of the school and enter either side. Please note the main front door facing Nall is locked and is NOT to be used as an entrance during Religious Education.
Children should arrive no more than 5 minutes early. Teachers need time to get their classrooms ready and we cannot provide supervision earlier than this. If you arrive prior to 4:25/6:10 your children should wait with you in the pod areas located on the first floor.
DISMISSAL:
You need to park and come in and get your child from his/her classroom. You may park on either the North or South side of the school and enter either side. If your child is in 4th or 5th grade you may request that they walk to a younger sibling’s room beginning the second week of class.
For safety reasons, no child will be allowed out of the building unless accompanied by an adult.

CURRICULUM:
Every student will have a textbook that will be kept at St. Michael. Every child will be given a prayer book to take home. The prayer book is grade
appropriate and these are the prayers that your child is expected to know at that grade level. Prayer is an integral part of Religious Education but we do not spend time memorizing prayers in class.

Faith First, Legacy Edition, has a phenomenal website that is available to all children and families in our program. There are interactive games, quizzes, and activities for every chapter for each grade. Teachers may use the website as a way to enhance the lesson at home. It is our hope that everyone will take a few minutes each week to explore these resources. Check it out at www.faithfirst.com.

COMMUNICATION HOME:
The Christian Education Office will use e-mail almost entirely to communicate with parents. Please be sure that we have an accurate e-mail address on file so you will receive notifications about schedule changes, class reminders, Religious Ed. newsletters and other parish events. In addition, teachers may send home notes/e-mails about individual classes.
CRUCIFIX PRAYER PROGRAM:
Every class will have a crucifix [in a zip lock bag], with an instruction card, and a prayer card. This will go home with a different student each week. Students are asked to take the crucifix home, place it in a prominent place and pray the prayers with his/her family each day that week. Students are to return the crucifix to his/her teacher the next class.
BEHAVIOR:
For the most part we have very acceptable behavior in our classes. Sometimes there are some breaches.
When this occurs teachers are being asked to:
When this occurs teachers are being asked to:
1. Correct immediately with respect.
2. Talk to the student privately if there is a recurrence.
3. Refer the student to the coordinator, if change does not occur.
4. Parents will be contacted by the coordinator to assist with the problem if there is no improvement.
WEATHER:
We adhere to Blue Valley snow days. If Blue Valley is out due to weather we will not have classes. If weather conditions are threatening we will make a judgement call on whether or not to cancel. Any weather related cancellations will be recorded on the weather line on the Christian Education office number (402-3940).
