Parish Precepts

Parishioner who have taken leadership roles in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish are called to exemplify the teachings of Christ and the Church, and to give support to the parish community.  They will, as is appropriate, form their lives around the following parish precepts:

To worship God by participating in Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation (CCC, nos. 2041-2042).

To make the home a domestic church where prayer—individual and shared—is part of every family member’s day (CCC, nos. 2204-2205).

To lead a sacramental life, receiving the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation regularly and the Sacrament of Eucharist frequently (CCC, nos. 2041-2042).

To study Catholic teaching in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, to be confirmed, and to continue to study and advance the cause of Christ (CCC, nos. 1285, 1302-1311).

To observe the marriage laws of the Church, be the primary religious teacher of one’s children by word and example, and use the parish school and/or religious-education programs (CCC, nos. 1601, 1625-1637, 1643-1654, 2201-2203, 2221-2229).

To strengthen and provide moral and spiritual support to the Church: (a) the mission of St. Michael parish, (b) the parish priests, (c) the worldwide Church, and (d) the Holy Father. To do this by volunteering one’s time and talent and by sharing one’s treasure through pledging to Parish Operations, the Capital Campaign, and Archdiocesan support (“5, 4, 1%”) (CCC, nos. 2041, 2043).

To do acts of penance, including abstaining from meat and fasting from food on the appointed days (CCC, nos. 1430-1439, 1459-1460, 2041-2043).

To participate in the mission and apostolate of the Church, evangelizing by word and deed (CCC, nos. 1276, 2044-2046).

To encourage proper discernment for vocational choices, be they marriage, religious life, the priesthood, or the single life (CCC, nos. 2230-2233; Mt 9:37-38, Jn 17:6-26).

To respect the moral authority Christ gave the Church, and to join the Magisterium of the Church in giving witness to the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death (CCC, nos. 2032-2040, 2258, 2319).
