Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is growing at St. Michael the Archangel!
We offer CGS in Pre-school-5th grade in our parish school, Kindergarten CGS in Religious Ed, and CGS Sacrament prep for 2nd grade and RCIC students and families.
What is CGS?
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious formation of children. It is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an “atrium,” a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials that they use.
In harmony with the universal church, the life in the atrium follows the liturgical year. Material is placed at the disposal of the children. The children’s personal work with the material aids their meditation on and absorption of the theme presented.
Interested in helping in the atrium?
Assistant opportunities available. Call Diane Jones for more information. Further interested in becoming a lead catechist? Fall formation sessions begin soon. SMA extends an invitation for scholarship to those interested in becoming a lead catechist. Most adults marvel at how much their spiritual life grows through the training process. CGS training is deeply rich, gentle and family friendly.
