At St. Michael and any Catholic parish, your designated minister can assist you with the information and assistance on receiving an annulment after a time of divorce. For a Catholic to re-marry in the Catholic Church, there must be a declaration of nullity from their local Tribunal. The marriage will still have been valid civilly, but after further examination, may in fact be invalid sacramentally.
The USCCB states that, "For a Catholic marriage to be valid, it is required that:
(1) the spouses are free to marry;
(2) they are capable of giving their consent to marry;
(3) they freely exchange their consent;
(4) in consenting to marry, they have the intention to marry for life, to be faithful to one another and be open to children;
(5) they intend the good of each other;
(6) their consent is given in the presence of two witnesses and before a properly authorized Church minister. "
During the annulment process, your Tribunal office is seeking evidence that one of the essential requirements, above, was missing, which would determine that the marriage was not actually brought about on the wedding day. This process begins by meeting with your priest, deacon, or lay minister to work through and submit the required documents. Contact our Parish office to set up an appointment with one of our Priests. 913-402-3900.
