A great practice is to download and play apps before allowing your children to do so. Look to see if the content is age appropriate, safe, easy to play/understand and worth your child's time.
YouTube has parental controls. If you go to Settings>Parent Settings>Add YouTube Kid Profile> and you will be prompted to follow the instructions. You can also choose "Not interested" or "Thumbs Down" emoji or report the video/channel to keep videos from appearing on your newsfeed.
iPhones/iPads have account restrictions, manage setting to require a password in order to access updates, installs, or deletes. You can put limits, content & privacy restrictions on the apps just through the device as well. This can be done on Kindle Fires, Android devices, Google devices, and Computers!
