Many years ago, during a drought in Sicily, food was scarce, and many people were starving. The poor had only their faith and turned to St. Joseph in prayer asking for his intercession for successful crops. When the rains came, they wanted to thank St. Joseph, so they made a wonderful table full of fruits, vegetables and sweets to honor him on his feast day. They distributed the food to the less fortunate.
The Italian cookies and pastries decorating the table will be sold. Free will donations are suggested to remind us that those who have enjoyed some measure of good fortune should share it with those who have less. All proceeds from the table will go to the Catholic Charities Food Pantry. For further information to help bake or volunteer please email or call Nancy Malicoat at 816-210-1101 or [email protected]
