Want to do more, but not sure where to look? Want to step outside of your comfort zone and try serving in a new way? Want to serve as a family but not sure where to do it? Check out all of these service opportunities, surely one of them will be the right fit for you!
Below is a list of various service organizations throughout the city. Peruse the list and see what catches your interest. Click on each organization to learn more about them (including important information about age requirements and safety requirements). Feel free to set up a service day with your family, friends or neighbors. St. Michael is not resposnible for making any arrangements.
Organizations with immediate needs:
Meals on Wheels - deliver meals to frail & elderly homebound residents. Kids welcome w/ adults.
Catholic Charities - several ongoing opportunites to help.
Little Sisters of the Poor - Jeanne Jugan Center has ongoing opportunities ranging from reading aloud to housekeeping/maintenance to helping in their library.
For Small Children and Up
Meals on Wheels - deliver meals to frail & elderly homebound residents. Kids welcome w/ adults.
Decorate bags for Meals on Wheels residents - bring smiles to the residents by decorating their lunch bags. Bags are provided. Contact Brandy at [email protected] for more info.
Creative Expressions - make cards, bookmarks or small crafts for Meals on Wheels residents.
Wayside Waifs - various projects with animals on site. Ages Kindergarten-6th grade
A Million Thanks - write letters of thanks and encouragement to our deployed military.
Something to Eat - pack nutritious meals to send to families in need or countries in crisis.
Hope Faith Ministries - homeless ministry, help in the food kitchen, thrift store or more. Ages 5+. Ages 12+ to work in the kitchen.
For Teens and Up
Harvesters - sort and package food to be distributed to shelters and food pantries. Ages 12+.
Helping Hands - assist residents with a variety of tasks; mowing, sorting mail, etc. Ages 16+.
Johnson County Christmas Bureau - help families shop for Christmas.
Wayside Waifs - various opportunities with animals. Ages 13-15 with adult. Ages 16+ on own.
Hillcrest Transitional Housing - help with maintenance, the community garden or thrift store.
City Union Mission - homeless shelter for men, women and chldren. Ages 12+.
Habitat for Humanity - build homes (Ages 16+) or work in the ReStore (Ages 14+)
Project Uplift - cook and/or deliver meals and necessities to homeless living on the street. Ages 8th grade+. Can also work in the distribution center, Elementary age+.
Jerusalem Farm - community living focused on service, sustainable living and home repair.
For Adults, 18+
House of Hope - therapeutic home for teen girls with the goal of family resoration.
El Centro - improving the lives of Latinos through educational, social and economic opportunities.
Catch-A-Ride - provide rides to seniors or those with disabilities.
Religious Orders
Sisters of Charity - variety of opportunities for women ages 21-30.
Little Sisters of the Poor - Elderly Care Home, visit with residents, play games, etc
Fraternity of the Poor of Jesus Christ - safe haven for homeless women. Bring and serve meals. 913-449-7839. 2226 Troup Avenue. KC, KS 66104
Little Sisters and Brothers of the Lamb - pray with them, help with food needs, light maintenance.
Catholic Charities

Shalom House Meal Ministry - shelter and hospitality for homeless men. Ages 15+.
Mobile Food Distribution - 3rd Saturday of the month, package and distribute food. Ages 12+.
Hope Distribution Food Pantry - restock the food pantry for the next day, 2:30-4:30pm. Ages 13+
Homes for Refugee Families - help set-up homes for new familes. Kids welcome with adult.
Turnstyles Thrift Store - sort clothes on Saturdays. Ages 10+.
Various - Receptionist, pantry volunteers, Financial Education Mentors, Food Rescue Drivers, Cashiers at Turnstyles, lead school tours and more. For adults.
